Veterans Reporter News

Since our inception, Concerned Veterans for America (CVA) has been calling for more accountability at the Department of Veterans Affairs and has been advocating for commonsense reforms that make it easier to fire bad VA employees. Almost every day there are stories that reinforce the fact there is still an utter lack of accountability within the VA. Whether it is the fact that it took over a year to fire a VA employee that left a veteran with substance abuse problems at a crack house or the fact that the VA reinstated an employee who pled guilty to participating in an armed robbery, it is abundantly clear to most veterans that the VA has a toxic culture that is still in need of much more accountability and reform. That is why veterans overwhelmingly support reforms that introduce more accountability to the VA.
Sadly, the United States Senate does not seem to agree with America's veterans when it comes to the need for more accountability at the VA. Two weeks ago, Senators Johnny Isakson (R-GA) and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) introduced a deceptively-named bill called the Veterans First Act -- a bill which they claim would put veterans first at the VA and make it easier to fire bad VA employees. But the bill does neither and, if passed, will further entrench an out of control VA bureaucracy, in addition to allowing VA employees guilty of misconduct to continue to escape punishment for their actions. Even more troubling is that the Veterans First Act was crafted in a way to appease big-government unions like the American Federation of Government Employees -- an organization that opposes any reform that will upset the status quo at the VA. That fact alone should be alarming to anyone who is serious about reforming and fixing the VA.
All of this is unacceptable. This is why we need you to contact your senators NOW and demand that they stand with veterans -- not big-government unions -- and oppose the Veterans First Act.
CVA has made it simple to contact your senators. All you need to do is click here, fill out the form, and then you can quickly send an email to your Senators urging them to stand up for real accountability at the VA -- not the fake accountability in the Veterans First Act.
The Senate even has a chance to vote on a bill that introduces true accountability to the VA -- the VA Accountability Act -- which has already passed the House of Representatives on a bipartisan vote and which is supported by almost every major veteran group. Yet, they are instead choosing to advance a bill that will do nothing to improve to toxic and corrupt culture within the Department of Veterans Affairs.
So please, contact your Senators and demand they support real accountability and oppose the Veterans First Act.
